3 Ingredient Bagels, Gluten & Lactose Free

If you’ve found this recipe, you have struck literal gold! These gluten and lactose free bagels taste like they are from your local bagel shop, but won’t give you the pain and bloating that a regular bagel may bring.

Recipe makes 4 large bagels.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups lactose free yogurt (dairy free optional, I haven’t made with dairy free yogurt)
  • 2 cups gluten free flour (I used Bob’s Red Mill GF 1 to 1 baking flour)
  • 3 tablespoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 egg
  • seasonings of choice for the top of your bagels

Instructions:

In a large bowl, add 1.5 cups of lactose free yogurt, 2 cups of gluten free flour, 3 tablespoons of baking powder, and 2 teaspoons of salt. Mix your ingredients with your hands to combine, turning your ingredients into dough. Knead your dough for at least 2-3 minutes once it has been combined.

Separate your dough into 4 separate balls, flatten them down into raised circles, and create a hole in the center of your dough with your thumb. Place your bagels in a floured/non-stick sprayed air fryer (or on a parchment-lined baking sheet).

Crack an egg in a small bowl and whisk to create an egg wash for the tops of your bagels. Once whisked, take a brush and spread your egg wash was over the top of your dough. Top your bagels with whatever seasoning you like. I chose to season with a drizzle of garlic olive oil, flakey salt, pepper, sesame seeds and rosemary.

Place in the air fryer for 30 minutes at 375F, flipping once half way through. When you go to flip your bagels at the 15 minute mark, make sure to repeat spreading your egg wash and seasoning the underside of your bagels. (for an oven, try baking your bagels at 400F for 45 minutes, flipping once).

Once they have cooked on both sides, slice your bagels in half and lay them open-faced in your air fryer (or on your baking sheet) and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes (for oven, bake an extra 5 minutes & broil for an additional minute or until golden brown). (option to pop your bagel in the toaster as well).

Top your bagel with your favorite tummy-friendly spread! I used 1/8th of an avocado on one half of the bagel and lactose-free cream cheese on the other half and drizzled garlic-infused olive oil over both halves.

Store bought gluten-free bagels just don’t cut it for me. This recipe gives the nostalgic feeling of having a freshly baked bagel, for that cozy, slow Sunday morning that I have craved for so long. Now that I finally perfected it, I am so excited to share my bagel recipe with you!
